What’s the Difference Between the Laifen SE vs the Laifen Swift

I have done several hot tools reviews at this point and have found a few good apples. Many of you have asked me what the difference was between the Laifen Swift and the new Laifen SE. While these hairdryers are similar, in this post and the corresponding video, I get into all the specific differences between the two dryers.

I’ve put both to the test in a detailed, honest comparison covering everything from temperature regulation and cord length to diffuser design and travel-friendliness.

At $30 less than the Swift, is the SE a better value? Or does the Swift’s superior temperature regulation make it worth the extra cost for certain hair types? Keep reading for my complete breakdown and find out which Laifen dryer might be right for you!

I have six main criteria for a perfect dryer:

1. Well-made.
2. Proper attachments for curly or straight hair.
3. Good temperature controls with max temp of 250°F to be safer for curly and/or gray hair.
4. Gentle blower settings, that reduce mechanical damage.
5. Affordable.
6. Bonus points if it was lightweight.

While both diffusers are hover style diffusers (similar to Dyson) they differ enough in their construction for it to be noted.

Laifen SE Bonuses:

• Longer cord.
• No surge protector on cord.
• Made for travel.
• Less expensive.

Laifen Swift Bonuses:

• I find the SWIFT diffuser far superior for my waves and curls.
• I prefer the heat settings on the Swift since they’re a little bit cooler.
• It seems to dry a little faster than the SE, but I’d have to really do a time test to prove the difference.
• Overall, I think the SWIFT is safer for silver hair.

Laifen Swift & SE Sames:

• Convenient magnetic attachments.
• Important note: You can swap the diffuser between models. If possible, getting the SE without its diffuser and buying the original Swift diffuser separately would be ideal.
• Air filter that doesn’t grab hair.
• Vacillating heat setting.
• Both shorten dry time.
• Small and lightweight.

Both have a competitive price point to other similar dryers on the market. 

• Lower than the Dyson which runs between $300 and $600
• Slightly less than the Shark at $179 depending on which set you get.

So does the SE get my Silver-Safe stamp of approval?

Yes, it does!!!

1. Well-made = 5 STARS
2. Proper attachments for curly or straight hair = 4 STARS, the diffuser is a bit too hot.
3. Good temperature controls = 4 STARS, a little hotter than the SWIFT.
4. Gentle blower settings = 5 STARS
   
5. Affordable = 4 STARS, well-priced especially for the tech.
6. Bonus points if it was lightweight = 5 STARS

Overall rating: 4.5 STARS

The SE dryer is very comparable. I still love the SWIFT over it, so in my humble opinion, if you need your everyday dryer go for the SWIFT, it isn’t as hot so seems safer to me for silver hair. If you still have pigmented hair, and/or need a little higher heat, or you travel a lot…the Laifen SE is a great option.
