After receiving numerous inquiries about this product, I decided it was time to investigate. Many of you have been asking whether it’s safe for silver hair, while others have shared that you’re already using it with promising results for reducing hair shed.
Given the level of interest and the mixed questions I’ve been receiving, I felt it was important to research this thoroughly and share my findings with you.

My personal hair loss journey spans five years, triggered by various stressors including COVID, surgical procedures, and life’s general pressures. For me, it’s telogen effluvium rather than hormonal hair loss. Understanding the root cause of your hair loss is crucial because different types require different solutions. When you can’t pinpoint the exact cause, it becomes a process of testing various approaches to find what actually works for your specific situation.
With all of that in mind, when it comes to hair growth claims, I approach them with serious skepticism. My focus was on identifying ingredients with scientific evidence to prove they actually work for hair loss.
Key Ingredients in Routine Wellness for Hair Loss
I found there were ingredients that have been proven or show promise in benefiting hair growth and reduce hair loss:
- Caffeine – Helps stimulate the hair follicle and improves circulation to the scalp.
- Caffeine stimulates hair follicle metabolism, increases cAMP levels, and may improve scalp circulation
- Clinical studies show promising results for male androgenetic alopecia treatment
- Non-prescription caffeine products demonstrate measurable improvements in hair parameters
- Saw Palmetto – Helps with hair loss which is hormonally related. I think it’s a good ingredient for that particular issue.
- Saw palmetto shows effectiveness for male androgenetic alopecia (hormonal hair loss)
- Clinical studies report positive results with minimal side effects
- Recognized as a viable natural treatment option for hormone-related hair loss
- Niacinamide – Helps with hair growth and density when used topically.
- Shampoos: 24-week study showed significant increases in hair count and thickness vs. placebo
- Serums: 6-month study in women with PCOS demonstrated improved hair growth and reduced hair fall
- Combination products: Formulations with other actives increased hair density in both men and women with pattern hair loss
These products do have promising follicle-stimulating ingredients and theoretically could work to regrow your hair.
My Experience
Some of you told me you noticed your hair wasn’t shedding as badly as soon as you started using it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t say the same. I didn’t notice a difference from washday to washday. I used them for a couple of weeks straight and then went to using them about once a week because of a few issues with using them all the time, I will get more into that below.
The Routine Wellness Shampoo
This is a really good formula, but I found it acts like a clarifying shampoo. It contains sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, which is a surfactant that’s very good at removing buildup. This shampoo makes your hair squeaky clean.
It’s loaded with extracts. The ingredient list says it has fragrance even though it’s unscented. I’m guessing it either has masking fragrances or they’re using the same ingredient panel for all their labels without removing “fragrance” from the unscented version.
It does have a smell coming from the herbal extracts. It’s not bothersome in any way—it’s really light, and I actually like it. The shampoo is highly effective, and I intend to use it up. It works well about once a week since it feels clarifying. It also has a chelating ingredient, so for silver sisters, this could be a good daily shampoo to prevent mineral buildup.
The Routine Wellness Conditioner
The unscented conditioner doesn’t list fragrance in the ingredients. I was only able to use this product a couple of times because it contains:
- Coconut oil
- Jojoba oil
- Sunflower oil
- Argan oil
It’s just too much oil for my hair. My hair began to feel heavy, weighed down, and greasy. This is probably a great formula if you have coarse hair or higher porosity hair than I do. I have fine, thin hair with low porosity, and oils tend to weigh my hair down, especially in conditioners.
As many of you know, I’m not a big fan of coconut oil, and it did exactly what coconut oil products do on my hair—it straightens it, weighs it down, and doesn’t feel like my hair. I quickly removed this from my rotation.
The Routine Wellness Mask
The mask has no smell, whatsoever. I found this mask to be incredible! It has amodimethicone in it, which was surprising that my hair actually tolerated. The fascinating thing about this product is that the first three times I used it, I had third-day curls. The same hair for three days straight!! Unheard of! This shocked me because my hair never does that!
However, I found that using it too much made that effect go away, so I had to back off and start using it only once a week, which is appropriate for a mask. This also made sense because it contains amodimethicone which fills in all the gaps in your hair…might be why it tends to straighten my hair over time.
Overall Verdict
Overall, I think these are great products. If you are experiencing hair loss, you’re not sure what’s causing it, and you don’t need fragrances that might cause other issues, I’d say give them a try.
If your hair is like mine and doesn’t like coconut oil, I would avoid the conditioner altogether and just get the shampoo and the mask. Try them once or twice a week.
Some people have better luck with amodimethicone than I do, just be aware that it might do the same to you that it did to me and straighten your curls or waves. If you have heat or bleached damaged hair your hair may love this formula.
I found these products to be quite impressive, and they are 100% silver hair safe, so they get my stamp of approval.
I did not look at the scented products, which use natural scents and could have color to them. The unscented products are colorless (the shampoo has a slight off-white color), I would consider it 100% safe.
If you need a fragrance-free alternative to Seen because it wasn’t quite right for you, I think these are great.
If you’re having trouble with hair loss, what can it hurt? It could help and be exactly what you need.
I did not find that my hair shed was any lighter using these products over the last couple of months, but your results may differ.
