I tested one brand of shampoo and conditioner bars several years ago, and frankly I don’t fully remember the experience, at this point.
Many of you have asked me about bars and which ones are the best ones for silver hair. So, when Viori reached out to me in March of 2024 and offered to send me bars to try, I was happy to accept the offer. I received the unscented bars and when I let them know I was struggling to decide for you all they also sent their purple bars.

NOTE: While this post is not sponsored, Viori sent me the fragrance free and purple toning bars to try. All opinions are my own. This will likely be the first in a handful of reviews on shampoo and conditioner bars as I know so many of you want to use bars and ditch plastics.
I was excited to try Viori Shampoo and Conditioner bars for several reasons:
- I wanted to test these out after so many of you have asked me about shampoo and conditioner bars. So even if it isn’t something I personally am drawn to using I want to give you great options.
- I also wanted to see if they were helpful to me while I was recuperating from shoulder surgery. Thinking using a bar might be helpful in place of liquid products…more on that in a moment.

First Impressions of Viori Bars:
They come beautifully packaged, for me there is something extra special about great packaging, maybe because I have designed packaging and can appreciate the attention to detail.
The shampoo bars are each a special molded shape and each have a unique pattern on the top. I love the designs…the Celtic knots speaking loudly to my inner Scot.
Viori also sent me a gorgeous bamboo bar holder, which is functional and beautiful!
NOTE: If you don’t know, you need something to store your bars in outside your shower otherwise the bars get soft and dissolve faster.
The Viori Story:
Viori was inspired by the rituals and practices of the Red Yao tribe and their naturally beautiful long hair which they care for with Longshung rice water.
Viori’s Social Mission:
In order to support the source of their inspiration and ingredients for their formulas they partnered with the Red Yao tribe:
- They give back 5% of their profits to the tribe to help with improvements for their village, healthcare, and economy.
- They also buy the rice at a premium price to further support the region and its people.

The Viori Formulas:
The formulas are similar at the base level, but the company told me whatever scent you choose can mean the essential oils create a different cleansing and conditioning experience.
The purple does have a floral lavender scent, however it is not overwhelming or clingy and is natural.
They do not have a leave-in bar yet, they are planning for one but said many customers just leave the conditioner in. I did not do this, I usually have scalp issues if I leave conditioner in that wasn’t designed to be leave-in.
Ingredients of Note:
The bars contain Longshung rice water and vegetable proteins so I was hesitant thinking they wouldn’t be right for my low porosity fine hair, but surprisingly they don’t do what a lot of rice products do in my hair so it must be the formula and the specific type of rice.
The pigment in the purple bars comes from sweet potato powder. While this may offer toning for coarser and dryer hair types, I didn’t notice any toning on my silky low porosity hair which is dye resistant…this is a struggle I have had since I ditched the dye. If you have a more porous or coarser hair type you may see the toning benefits more than I did.
Price:
They start around $15 a piece or they have bundles with the conditioner and/or the bamboo holder around $50.
I think that is really good price given they can last for up to 60 washes.
My Personal Take on Viori Bars:
In the video, I used the unscented bars and Pacifica Pineapple Swirl Curl Defining cream followed by Loma Firm Hold Gel.
Once you get the water to shampoo ratio down it lathers pretty well. It took me a while to figure this out, and I found if I shampooed twice I was able to get a better lather the second time. Overall, the shampoo is cleansing without stripping.
The conditioners are surprising. I wasn’t sure if I would like them. I was worried I would not be able to get it distributed through my hair evenly, but it has great slip and disperses into the hair nicely. I had no trouble detangling my hair.
I initially thought using a bar while I was recovering from shoulder surgery would be helpful. However, using one hand to wash my hair would prove to be more difficult than I imagined. You need both hands to create a lather and get the product worked into your hair. So I am here to tell you that did not go as planned.
Overall, I liked these bars and plan on using them up.
Who Are Viori Bars For?
Anyone! They really are a matter of figuring out what works for you and your hair type.
If you have silver hair and you are concerned about the color of the bars, they have lighter and whiter bars, if you have no issue with fragrances. And of course, the toning bars can be great to mitigate any yellowing if the pigments work on your hair type.
So does Viori get my Silver-Safe stamp of approval???
Yes, they do!!!
- Well-made = 5 STARS
- Giving back = 5 STARS

- Affordable = 5 STARS
