There are four ounces per bag, two tablespoons is the starting amount for your mix, that is around 1/2 an ounce of clay. For mid length hair this will make for around 8 applications, adjusting for shorter hair it will last longer, and for longer/thicker hair you will use more.

Yellowing usually comes from a mix of causes: sun exposure, hard water and mineral buildup, heat styling, air pollution, product residue, and even certain medications or supplements. It depends on the cause. If your yellowing comes from product buildup, hard water minerals, or environmental residue, the clay typically improves it noticeably. If the yellowing comes from UV exposure or heat styling damage, the hair’s structure has changed, and no topical product can fully reverse that. Most people have some combination of both and still find the clarifying to be helpful in feel and look of their silvers. 

Purple shampoo uses violet pigment to visually cancel out yellow tones, but it doesn’t remove the buildup causing the yellowing in the first place, and it can be drying with regular use. The difference between the oils is quite simply one ingredient. The bases are the same and the scalp oil contains rosemary oil to help with hair loss. Either oil can be used to activate the clay.
