For years I used Paul Mitchell products. When I was dyeing my hair, they were nourishing and conditioning. I had no issue with most of their fragrances, and some of the stylers are still in my cabinet today.
When I tried (and eventually failed) to be strictly Curly Girl Method, I stopped using many of the products. But when I started focusing on application methods and how I treated my hair during drying and styling, I experimented with them again. Once I learned about water-soluble silicones and let go of the myth that all silicones are evil, I started using even more PM products again.
After I reviewed their new “Clear” line, many of you wanted to know if there were more Paul Mitchell products I could recommend that were safe for silver hair. So, this is that post.
One issue to keep in mind: Paul Mitchell is currently going through major rebranding and repackaging to more environmentally friendly packaging. Because of this, some formulas are being discontinued and possibly reformulated, and there is also the new Clean Beauty line which I know nothing about yet.
For these reasons, I selected products for this review that I’m familiar with and could acquire. The relaunch has created some availability challenges—I ordered some items directly from Paul Mitchell, some from Amazon, and ran to Target to pick up a couple due to differences in availability with the packaging changes and distribution.

About The Brand – Paul Mitchell
Before we dive into whether these products are safe for silver hair, I wanted to share a little history about the brand with you:
In 1980, hairstylist Paul Mitchell and entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria launched their professional hair care company with just $700 between them. Mitchell, a Scottish-born hairdresser, discovered that Native Hawaiians had used awapuhi ginger (also called “shampoo ginger”) for centuries to condition their hair. The gel from the awapuhi flower naturally lathers and contains 19 amino acids essential for healthy hair.
In 1983, the partners established an off-the-grid farm in Pa’auilo, Hawaii, where all the awapuhi used in their products is still grown and hand-harvested today using solar power and rainwater. The original Awapuhi Shampoo launched in 1985 and remains a bestseller.
Paul Mitchell died from pancreatic cancer in 1989 at age 53. His son Angus Mitchell became co-owner and carried on his father’s legacy until his own tragic death in January 2024—also at age 53.
In March 2021, John Paul DeJoria’s daughter Michaeline DeJoria was promoted to CEO after working her way up through every department since 2007. DeJoria, now 80, serves as Chairman of the Board, while Michaeline directs the company’s future as one of the youngest CEOs in the beauty industry.
My Testing Process
First, I tested a selection of products together to see how they perform as a set. I often suggest you do this because ideally a chemist has designed each product to work together, balancing your hair’s pH from one product to the next and delivering the best possible results.
I started with the Classic Awapuhi Shampoo and Conditioner, followed by the Moisture Mist and Soft Style Soft Sculpting Spray Gel. The hold product proved to be the challenge point, which I’ll share more about as we go through all the products. I also switched the leave-in between the Moisture Mist and the 15-in-1 Spray to compare performance, and I’ll share my thoughts on each separately as we move along.
In addition to the above testing, I’ve included products in this post that I’ve used before, recommended before, and know to be silver-safe. You can always bookmark this for a Paul Mitchell reference—I’ll add products as I approve them. If you prefer to shop Amazon, there is a new Paul Mitchell store in my storefront [linked below]. *Amazon is a Paul Mitchell approved retailer, if shipped and sold by Amazon.com.
This was originally created in January 2026. Please be advised that prices and formulations will vary; this is not static information, so please be aware anything can change at any time.
Curly Girl Method Considerations
If you are really strict Curly Girl Method, very few of these products will be for you. If you have deviated and allow sulfates in, the clarifying products are really well-made and work wonders. If you allow shampoo-soluble or water-soluble silicones, like I do, you shouldn’t have any issues with most of the products I have shared in this post.
Note: Most silicones in these products are water-soluble (PEG-12 Dimethicone and Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone), which rinse out more easily than traditional silicones and are less likely to cause buildup. Amodimethicone, is also in some of the products which is a unique silicone that fills in gaps in the cuticle but is less likely to buildup on itself.
I believe in the theory that less is more when it comes to silicones. If you need or want to use them, the best practice is NOT to have them in every product in your lineup and be strategic about where you use them to get the most out of them for your hair type. I aim for no more than one product with silicones, so testing Paul Mitchell again was committing to silicones in almost everything.
It occurred to me while gathering all the ingredients for each product that Paul Mitchell doesn’t load their products up with glycerin and that might be why I have usually had success with their stylers since my curls are glycerin sensitive.
If you would like to learn more about ingredients and what is safe to use, I have a guide for that.
Paul Mitchell Silver Hair Safe Products
Paul Mitchell Classic Awapuhi Shampoo
Designed for: All hair types; balances moisture and adds shine
Price: Approximately $14.50 for 10.14 oz
Contains: Sulfates (1), Silicones (2)
Free of: Protein
Fragrance: Cucumber melon scent with soft floral notes – strong but did not trigger my allergies
Product Color: White
Complete Ingredient List: Water (Aqua, Eau), Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide MIPA, Sodium Chloride, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, PEG-12 Dimethicone, PEG-14M, Glycol Stearate, Silica, Magnesium Nitrate, Magnesium Chloride, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance (Parfum), BHT, Phenoxyethanol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate – Clarifying surfactant (removes buildup)
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – Clarifying surfactant (deep cleansing)
- Tetrasodium EDTA – Chelating agent (removes mineral deposits, prevents yellowing)
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
Performance: This shampoo is on the creamy side. I did not find the sulfates to be of any issue; however, because it contains two silicones and in combo with the conditioner, it was a little heavy. Over a short period of time, for my fine – thin hair, it was a little too much. Nothing a good clarifying didn’t solve.
Silver Rating: Overall, 5 Stars. If your hair is in the normal (texture, density, and porosity) range, this is a great basic shampoo.
Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Conditioner
Designed for: All hair types; lightweight moisture
Price: Approximately $15.50 for 10.14 oz
Contains: Silicones (2)
Free of: Protein
Fragrance: Cucumber melon scent with soft floral notes – strong but did not trigger my allergies
Product Color: White
Complete Ingredient List: Water (Aqua, Eau), Isododecane, Isohexadecane, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Alcohol, Hydroxycitronellal
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Behentrimonium Methosulfate – Conditioning agent (detangles, softens)
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
- Grape Seed Oil – Emollient (adds moisture, shine)
Performance: This is a really good conditioner—not too much, not heavy. Most likely best for normal hair types with no real need for heavier conditioning. I like it. It has decent slip, but as I mentioned with the shampoo, it builds up quickly for me with multiple silicones.
Silver Rating: 5 Stars for low-medium density & low-medium porosity.
Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist
Designed for: Leave-in moisture for hair and skin; reactivates styling products
Price: Approximately $13.50 for 8.5 oz
Contains: Silicones (2)
Free of: Protein, Glycerin
Fragrance: Cucumber melon scent with soft floral notes – strong but did not trigger my allergies
Product Color: Clear (watery spray)
Complete Ingredient List: Water (Aqua, Eau), Propylene Glycol, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Spirulina Platensis Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Sodium PCA, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium-4, Ethylhexylglycerin, Lactic Acid, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Hydroxycitronellal, Benzyl Alcohol, Terpineol, Vanillin, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalyl Acetate, Amyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol, Eugenol, Benzyl Benzoate
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Sodium PCA – Humectant (attracts and retains moisture, excellent alternative to glycerin)
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
- Irish Sea Moss (hydrating, antioxidant)
Performance: Good hydration for low porosity, low density, and finer hair types. I was happily surprised at how much my hair loved this leave-in. As with the shampoo and conditioner, the silicones were piling up, so eventually it was straightening my curls. I think spray leave-ins are valuable for low porosity, low density, and finer hair types whose hair just gets weighed down by cream leave-ins or curl creams.
Silver Rating: 5 Stars, may not work as an every wash day product if you need more conditioning in warmer or drier climates. It would be better for silver hair if it had UV and heat protection.
Paul Mitchell Classic 15-in-1 Spray
Designed for: Multi-tasking leave-in with 15 benefits
Price: Approximately $22.50 for 5.1 oz
Contains: Silicones (3), Protein
Free of: Glycerin
Thermal Protection: Up to 450°F
UV Protection: Yes (UVB)
Fragrance: Gourmand scent with notes of vanilla crème, mirabelle plum and black amber – strong but did not trigger my allergies; I actually really like it
Product Color: White (creamy spray)

- Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol (strengthens, repairs)
- Amodimethicone – Silicone (heat protection, smoothing)
15 Key Benefits:
- Hydration

- Frizz control
- Detangled strands
- UV protection
- Smoothed split ends
- Smoothness
- Color protection
- Softness
- Strength
- Enhanced elasticity
- Thermal protection (up to 450°F)
- Reduced breakage
- Added body
- Lightweight finish
Performance: I tried using this just as a spray leave-in before my gel and found it wasn’t really designed for that for my hair type. I had much better results using it as a refresh spray, prep for heat styles, and prep for braids (I love how my hair felt silky and shiny when I took the braid out).
Silver Rating: 5 Stars! Great product for silver hair!
Paul Mitchell Shampoo One
Designed for: Daily gentle cleansing shampoo for fine to medium and color-treated hair
Price: Approximately $14.50 for 10.14 oz
Contains: Sulfates, Silicones (2)
Free of: Protein
UV Protection: No
Fragrance: Coconut & pineapple
Product Color: Clear
Complete Ingredient List: Water (Aqua, Eau), Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Cocamide MIPA, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Panthenol, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium-44, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Magnesium Nitrate, Magnesium Chloride, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Alcohol, Coumarin
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
- Panthenol – Pro-Vitamin B5 (strengthening, moisture retention)
Performance: This classic daily shampoo creates a luxurious lather and cleanses effectively while leaving hair soft and manageable. The formula is a good go between if you need less hydration than the Awapuhi shampoo and less cleansing than the Shampoo Two. With conditioning agents including water-soluble silicones and panthenol to prevent excessive dryness. The tropical coconut-pineapple scent is pleasant and fresh. As one of Paul Mitchell’s original products, it remains popular for good reason—it’s a reliable, no-fuss cleanser.
Silver Rating: 5 Stars—A decent option for silver hair, but those with very dry, coarse, or fragile silver hair should opt for a more moisturizing formula from the Paul Mitchell line instead.
Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two
Designed for: Deep cleansing; removes buildup; for oily hair
Price: Approximately $14.00 for 10.14 oz
Contains: Sulfates, Glycerin
Free of: Silicones, Protein
Chelating: Yes

Product Color: Clear
Complete Ingredient List: Water (Aqua, Eau), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Panthenol, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Glycerin, Polyquaternium-44, Ethylhexylglycerin, Magnesium Nitrate, Magnesium Chloride, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Benzoate, Citral, Citrus Aurantium Peel Oil, Limonene, Pinene
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – Clarifying surfactant (deep cleansing, removes buildup)
- Tetrasodium EDTA – Chelating agent (removes mineral deposits, hard water buildup, prevents yellowing)
- Panthenol – Pro-Vitamin B5 (strengthening, moisture retention)
- Polyquaternium-44 – Conditioning polymer (adds softness, improves combability)
Performance: Outstanding performance. Out of all the clarifying shampoos I have tried in recent years, this one took first place in my shower as my primary hard water clarifying shampoo.
Silver Rating: 5 Stars! Follow with deep conditioner, or use with the QuickSilverHair Mask for your best shine yet.
Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three

Paul Mitchell Clear Sensitive Styling Glaze
Designed for: Sensitive skin and scalps; light hold that can be reactivated with water or heat; all hair types
Price: Approximately $20 for 5.1 oz
Contains: N/A
Free of: Dyes, Fragrance, Silicones, Sulfates, Protein, Glycerin
Dermatologist-Tested: Yes
Curly Girl Method Approved: Yes
UV Protection: No
Heat Protection: No
Product Color: Clear
Complete Ingredient List (Only 7 Ingredients!): Water (Aqua, Eau), Polyquaternium-37, Polyquaternium-11, Polysorbate 20, Ethylhexylglycerin, Isopropyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Polyquaternium-11 – Film-forming polymer (provides light hold, adds shine)
- Ethylhexylglycerin – Conditioning agent (softens, improves texture)
Performance: I tested this product as a gel for my silver curls, even though Paul Mitchell doesn’t explicitly market it as one. I was impressed with the results. I expected my hair would dry quickly with this because of the concentration of alcohol. Surprisingly, my hair took considerably longer to dry than anticipated. This suggests the formula is well-balanced to avoid the harsh, drying effects typically associated with alcohol-containing styling products.
For silver hair specifically, the fragrance-free, dye-free formulation is ideal for those with sensitive scalps or who prefer to avoid potential irritants. The ability to reactivate the hold with water or heat is particularly useful for refreshing second-day curls without additional product application.
Silver Rating: 4 Stars! Not a strong enough hold for my silver curls and the definition I am usually looking for. Interestingly, I love it for second day refresh and styling. It works great for smooth updos.

Key Functional Ingredients:
- VP/VA Copolymer – Styling resin (provides hold, adds body)
- Aloe Vera (soothing, moisturizing)
- PEG-12 Dimethicone – Water-soluble silicone (adds shine, smooths)
Performance: I have the old formula on hand, so I cannot speak totally to the new one; I will update this post when I buy it again. I always have this on hand. I like to use it about the same way you would use hair spray; it is very light hold, so I wouldn’t classify it as a “spray gel.”
Silver Rating: 5 Stars! This has held a place in my cabinet for as long as I can remember.

Paul Mitchell Soft Style The Cream
Designed for: Leave-in conditioning styling cream with UV protection; lightweight hold
Price: Approximately $25 for 6.8 oz
Contains: Silicones (3), Glycerin
Free of: Protein
UV Protection: Yes
Fragrance: Soft floral scent blended with grapefruit, bergamot and green apple – strong and perfumy, and I no longer use this
Product Color: Slight and light yellow tinge
Complete Ingredient List: Aqua (Water, Eau), Glycerin, PVP, Methyl Gluceth-10, Cetearyl Alcohol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Hedychium Coronarium (White Ginger) Root Extract, Panthenol, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Yeast Extract (Extrait de Levure), Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, BHT, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, C11-15 Pareth-7, Caprylyl Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Disodium Phosphate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Laureth-9, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium-59, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Phosphate, Trideceth-12, Phenoxyethanol, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Potassium Sorbate, Parfum (Fragrance), Limonene
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate – UV filter
- Panthenol (strengthening, moisture retention)
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
- Jojoba Oil – Emollient (moisturizes, adds shine)
- Amodimethicone – Silicone (smooths, adds shine)
Performance: As a leave-in, this is a good cream for styling wavy hair; it does provide UV protection, so a good product for silver hair. I used this cream for years and recently gave it another try. I was a little concerned about the color but didn’t seem to have any issues. Just use with caution. The scent was what made me stop using it.
Silver Rating: 4 Stars—just because of color and scent. If you have no scent issues and darker grays, the color will not be of issue.
Paul Mitchell The Conditioner
Designed for: Leave-in conditioner for all hair types
Price: Approximately $15.50 for 10.14 oz
Contains: Silicones (2), Glycerin
Free of: Protein
UV Protection: No
Fragrance: Refreshing herbal scent of lavender and rosemary
Product Color: Clear with blue tint (Blue 1 Lake colorant)
Complete Ingredient List: Water (Aqua, Eau), Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium-37, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Cetrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance (Parfum), Amyl Salicylate, Citral, Citronellol, Citrus Aurantium Peel Oil, Coumarin, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalyl Acetate, Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090)
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
- Jojoba Oil (emollient, moisturizes, adds shine)
- Aloe Vera (moisturizing, soothing)
- Seaweed Extract (moisturizing, mineral-rich)
Performance: This is one of Paul Mitchell’s original products and remains a versatile leave-in conditioner suitable for fine-medium texture and low-medium porosity. The lightweight formula hydrates without weighing hair down, smooths frizz, and reduces static. It rinses clean if you prefer to use it as a rinse-out conditioner. A reliable everyday product that lives up to its decades-long reputation, but not for everyone and especially not made for hair types that need stronger conditioners. This is on the light side to be sure. I was not a fan of its longevity, meaning by the next day my hair felt too dry. One other concern: the Blue 1 Lake colorant gives the product a slight blue tint. While this is likely too minimal to affect most hair colors, those with very light or porous silver hair should test on a small section first.
Silver Rating: 4 Stars—Simply because it isn’t for everyone especially if you need more conditioning from your leave-in.
Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel
Designed for: Maximum control for hard-to-hold styles; firm hold with high shine and bold texture

Product Color: Clear
Complete Ingredient List: Water/Aqua/Eau, Polyquaternium-11, Polysorbate 20, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Panthenol, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, Caprylyl Glycol, Oleth-20, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Glyoxal, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Alcohol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Terpineol
Key Functional Ingredients:
- Polyquaternium-11 – Film-forming polymer (provides firm hold, locks in style)
- Panthenol (strengthening, moisture retention)
- Hawaiian Awapuhi (moisturizing, smoothing)
- Hydrolyzed Soy Protein (strengthens hair)
- Jojoba Oil – Emollient (adds shine, conditions)
Performance: Before I started using Loma Firm Hold Gel, this was my normal gel product. It is a light hold, in my opinion; it does not contain PVP/copolymers, so I think that is why it doesn’t offer the strongest hold. It is silver safe though and works on silver waves and looser curls.
Silver Rating: 5 Stars for a soft hold gel.
Paul Mitchell Fast Form Styling Cream-Gel

Key Functional Ingredients:
- Panthenol (strengthening, moisture retention)
- Shea Butter – Rich emollient (deep moisture, softening)
- Avocado Oil – Moisturizing oil (smooths, adds shine)
- Jojoba Oil – Emollient (conditions, adds shine)
- Hydrolyzed Soy Protein (strengthens hair)
- VP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate Copolymer (provides soft hold)
Performance: This is a soft hold cream gel that adds shine and a small amount of hold. I think it would work great for wavy hair types that need just a little hold. A little goes a long way.
Silver Rating: 5 Stars!
My Suggestions Based on Your Hair Type
If you don’t know your hair type head over to this Ultimate Guide to find out.
The Classic Awapuhi line is best suited for low to medium porosity and is a great starting product line for finer and lower density hair types. Just watch out for the silicones weighing your hair down.
If you need smoothing for straighter hair patterns, check out the Paul Mitchell Smooth line.
If you have higher porosity, drier hair, tighter curls, high density, or bleach damaged hair, check out the Paul Mitchell Hydrate (formerly Instant Moisture) line.
And of course, if you have bleached or highlighted (for transition, especially) or your natural silvers, the Paul Mitchell Blonde Collection will keep your hair toned – use no more than once a week.

If you are looking for heat tools, Paul Mitchell makes a few that have made my Silver-Safe list. The Neuro tools all have great heat settings that you can keep below 365°F to protect your silvers from heat damage. The Smoothing Hot Brush is my favorite tool.
- Neuro by Paul Mitchell Sleek Smoothing Hot Brush
- Neuro by Paul Mitchell Curl+ 1.25″ Ceramic Curling Iron
- Neuro by Paul Mitchell Style+ 1″ Ceramic Straightening & Styling Iron
Chelating Agents
Products with Chelating Agents (Remove Mineral Deposits & Hard Water Buildup):
- Shampoo Two – Tetrasodium EDTA
- Shampoo Three – Tetrasodium EDTA, Trisodium HEDTA, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Thiosulfate (also removes chlorine), Disodium EDTA-Copper
- Awapuhi Shampoo – Tetrasodium EDTA
Why This Matters for Silver Hair: Chelating agents remove mineral deposits from hard water that can cause yellowing and dullness on silver hair. Regular use of chelating shampoos helps maintain brightness.
My Top Picks from This Lineup:
- Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two or Three – Great clarifying products for silvers.
- Paul Mitchell Soft Style Soft Sculpting Spray Gel – Good hair spray for wavy-curly silvers.
- Paul Mitchell Classic 15-in-1 Spray – Surprisingly good prep, heat and UV protection, and refresh leave-in.
- Neuro by Paul Mitchell Sleek Smoothing Hot Brush – this has become my favorite tool for straightening my hair quickly, great for a bad hair day.
In Closing
Paul Mitchell has earned its place in professional hair care for good reason. Their products deliver consistent results, and many translate beautifully to silver hair care when you understand how to use them strategically. Whether you need a chelating shampoo to combat hard water yellowing, a heat-protective leave-in for styling, or non-yellowing hairsprays for hold, this line offers solid options.
The key is matching products to your specific hair type and being mindful of silicone buildup if you have fine or low-density hair like mine. Keep the clarifying shampoos on hand, use the 15-in-1 spray for heat protection, and remember that even classic products can work brilliantly for silver hair when applied correctly.
If you know of a great Paul Mitchell product that didn’t make my cut, email me, and let me know what’s been working great for your silvers.
